This course examines elements of the American past not normally covered in US history courses such as efforts by ordinary people to shape the meaning of freedom beginning in the period of the American Revolution and continuing through the antebellum era, the Civil War, Gilded Age, Progressive Era, World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, and post-World War II era. Recommended Preparation: High school American history. Counts as a CAS Global & Cultural Diversity course. Counts as a Human Diversity & Commonality course.
