Catalog description

Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics: crack tip fields, stress intensity factors, energy release rate, J-integral, fracture criteria. Nonlinear Theories: R-curve, plastic fracture mechanics. Quasibrittle materials: cohesive crack model and fracture process zone. Fatigue cracks and AASHTO LRFD Specifications. Size Effect: linear elastic fracture mechanics prediction, size effect in quasibrittle materials, and design implications for reinforced concrete structures (ACI 318). Fracture mechanics approach for Mode-II problems related to bond of composites, reinforcing bars, and anchors. Experimental determination of fracture properties. Recommended preparation: ECIV 435 . Prereq: ECIV 310 or Requisites Not Met permission.
