Catalog description

The first semester in a two-semester, entry-level sequence that introduces the student who has little or no dance training to the basic tenets, principles and aspects of contemporary and modern dance technique. The practicum-based classwork will include an emphasis on physical 'warm-up' exercises designed to prepare the student for locomotor and axial movements in patterns and combinations that explore a range of dynamics, rhythmic structures and spatial aspects and with a broad spectrum of applications, including dance, music, sports and theater. Explorations and investigations, both practical and cognitive, are designed to lay an introductory foundation for participating in and appreciating and understanding creative expressions. Counts as a Full-Semester Wellness/Movement course.
