Culminating Experience in Data Science

Catalog description

In this course, the students will carry out a data science project addressing a real-life problem by formulating their objectives, collecting/curating data, addressing preprocessing and data formatting, performing analyses or model development as it fits to their objectives, visualizing, interpreting and discussing their results, and addressing issues that relate to data ethics. The students can perform projects In teams of up to four students. The expectations on the scale and comprehensiveness of the project will be commensurate with team size. Upon completion of the course, the students are expected to accomplish the following objectives: employ the knowledge gained in the Data Science graduate curriculum to real-life data analysis throughout the data life cycle; practice with data collection and curation, data pre-processing, data analytics, interpretation, visualization, and presentation of results, model validation; and identify and address data ethics considerations in real-life data analysis application. Prereq: Graduate Student standing.
