Network Measurement and Analysis

Catalog description

The Internet is an enormous, heterogeneous and dynamic system that belies easy understanding. Our understanding of the operation of the Internet largely comes from empirical observation. This seminar will immerse students in the field of Internet measurement and analysis. This includes, (1) reading state-of-the-art research about how the Internet works and how to assess its dynamics, (2) learning how to take sound measurements of the Internet's characteristics and behavior and (3) understanding how to analyze measurements to form solid insights into the Internet's operation. The class will be small and follow a discussion-based format. The class will also include a semester-long measurement project. Prereq: CSDS 325 or CSDS 425 .
