Homer's Gods and Heroes in the Iliad and the Odyssey

This course introduces students to the gods and heroes of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey and their tales of conflict, courage, pettiness, betrayal, loyalty, love, sacrifice, revenge and redemption. How the original social and historical performative context of these works differ from our own will be closely examined, as will the power that mythic narratives have continued to hold over the modern imagination.
