Explore fundamental principles for neural network organization that that can be applied across brain regions and species. This course begins with a lecture and discussion-based format and transitions into a writing intensive course. Students will gain experience developing a written research proposal and oral presentation of that proposal. Levels of analysis will range from molecular to whole animal behavior. Strategies for preparing effective fellowship proposals will be discussed. The material covered in systems neuroscience will provide a foundation for students to prepare a fellowship proposal adaptable to different funding agencies. This course fulfills the Neurobiology Core Curriculum requirement of the Neuroscience BS and fulfills the Organismal Biology Elective of the Biology BA and BS. Offered as BIOL 370 and BIOL 470 . Counts as a Disciplinary Communication course. Prereq: Graduate student standing.
