Catalog description

The firm is a nexus of contracts among its various stakeholders (e.g., managers, shareholders, debtholders). This cases- and assignments-based course examines different valuation methods and techniques at the intersection of theory and the reality of markets, providing the basis for the exploration of value creation. The takeaway learnings from this course are: (a) Understanding how stakeholder values can be created or destroyed, (b) Measuring/quantifying value using financial big data, (c) Different methods of valuation: Intrinsic and Extrinsic valuation, (d) Value Creation under asymmetric information, (f) Value Creation with agency cost, and (e) Understanding market reaction and longer-term value creation. We will analyze case studies, perform data analytics, and evaluate real-world events. Offered as BAFI 440 and FNCE 440 . Prereq: Enrolled in the Master of Accountancy, Master of Supply Chain Management, or Master of Business Analytics and Intelligence program.
