Community-Based Research in Medical Anthropology

Community-Based Research in Medical Anthropology (CRMA) is intended to provide undergraduate and graduate students practical experience designing, implementing, and presenting a community-based research study. Working in teams and individually, CRMA students will employ qualitative and ethnographic research methods to conduct a local community-based research project on illegal drug use and/or substance use disorder/addiction. Over the course of the semester, students will take this research project from start to finish. Meaning, students will collect, manage, process, and analyze qualitative data, as well as write-up and present project findings to the community partner. This course will work with two community partners, The Centers and MetroHealth. Offered as ANTH 324 and ANTH 424 . Counts as a Local & Global Engagement course. Prereq: Anthropology Graduate student status and ANTH 435 or ANTH 439 (Prereq or Coreq).
