This course explores social transformations in China since 1949 from an anthropological perspective. After briefly introducing the history of the People's Republic of China and Confucianism and its impact on Chinese society, the course will delve into the changing family dynamics and gender relations, China's birth-planning policy, education, rural-urban migration, and ethnic diversity in China.
