This course explores mental health and mental illness from an anthropological perspective, focusing on how culture, power, and social inequalities shape experiences of distress, treatment, and recovery across diverse global contexts. Through ethnographic readings, films, and case studies, students examine cultural concepts of illness, psychiatric practices, and the social forces influencing mental health outcomes.
