"Writing Black Britain" attends to writing by people of African descent in the British Isles, and especially to work that has emerged in the wake of the second World War and a post-War period of rapid decolonization. A deep, rich, and developing body of imaginative literature by people of African descent in Britain invites a reconsideration of contemporary British culture and re-centers Black subjects in relation to the story of modern Britain. "Writing Black Britain" takes this work of critical re-valuation seriously as it focuses on literary and cultural work by Black Britons in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
