Introduction to Computer Science

Catalog description

In this computer science course students survey fundamental concepts of computer science and computational thinking. Students learn to design and evaluate solutions and to apply computer science concepts and techniques to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. Students are introduced to logical reasoning, procedural decomposition, conditionals, iteration, problem solving, incorporating abstraction into programs and using data to discover new knowledge. Students explain how computing innovations and computing systems work (including the Internet), explore their potential impacts, and contribute to a computing culture that is collaborative and ethical. No previous programming experience is expected.
