Catalog description

In this course, an expanded emphasis is placed on the application of the nursing process, therapeutic communication, critical thinking, and advanced nursing skills in promoting the health of adult and geriatric patients experiencing multiple acute and chronic health problems with predictable outcomes. Collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop the patient’s plan of care is incorporated. Nutrition, growth and development, pharmacology and pathophysiology are integrated throughout the course. Experience is gained in the healthcare setting to enhance the development of clinical competency in promoting the health of patients within a family and community context. Also emphasized is the acquisition of knowledge, skills and abilities needed to function as a professional provider of patient centered care, professional member within the discipline, professional member of a healthcare team, and patient safety advocate. The course has a theory and clinical component.
