Catalog description

This course covers the theory of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and related pharmacology of the urinary, circulatory, and respiratory systems. A comprehensive overview of pharmaceutical dosage forms, pharmacokinetics, terminology, abbreviations and symbols, the difference between trade and generic drugs and interpretation of prescriptions in relation to these systems will be included. Students will utilize the pharmacy lab in the applications of pharmacy science. Interpretations of doctor’s orders along with prescription filling, refilling, and labeling procedures are practiced. Also presented in this course are procedures for the generation and maintenance of accurate pharmacy records, third party claims and the use of pharmacy reference materials. Emphasis is placed on the importance of diligence in documentation and related issues of potential liability. Computerized pharmacy systems and keyboarding skills are also an integral component of this course. A minimum grade of C is required to pass this course.
