Laboratory and Emergency Procedures

Catalog description
This course examines core laboratory and emergency competencies for the clinical setting. Students learn infection control and medical asepsis; laboratory safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance; collection, labeling, handling, and transport of blood and nonblood specimens; and CLIA-waived diagnostic testing with interpretation and documentation. Students also develop practical skills in capillary and venipuncture techniques; first aid and rapid response; BLS for healthcare providers (CPR/AED); rehabilitation principles with safe body mechanics and basic mobility equipment; and trauma-informed strategies for effective patient interactions. This course includes OSHA training and certification.
