Catalog description
This course examines periodontology principles pertinent to dental hygiene practice. Topics include a comprehensive study of the periodontium and the epidemiology, etiology, and classification of periodontal disease. Immunology and host defense mechanisms are explored with an emphasis on the treatment and management of periodontal diseases, utilizing drug therapy, disease prevention, and surgical and non-surgical treatments, microorganisms associated with periodontology, implantology and maintenance, and periodontal/endodontic emergencies. semester coursework.
