Medical Assisting Externship

Catalog description

This supervised, hands-on externship places students in a clinical setting. Under the direct guidance of a site supervisor, students apply the clinical and administrative skills learned in prior courses. Typical activities may include patient intake and vital signs, electronic health record (EHR) documentation, instrument processing and infection control, scheduling, and front- office support, as allowed by the site. Students must maintain professional conduct and follow Carrington College and site policies, comply with state and federal rules (HIPAA, OSHA), protect patient confidentiality, and complete required logs and evaluations.
