Catalog description

This theory and lab course provides and introduction into organic chemistry concepts with an emphasis on structure, reactivity, and mechanisms of carbon and hydrocarbon compounds, and their derivatives. Emphasis is on the specific functional groups found in macromolecules and nucleic acids and the reactions they undergo in human physiology. Basic techniques of preparation, separation, identification, isolation, purification, and synthesis in the laboratory are explored aimed at creating a foundational understanding of the chemical principles that underpin biological processes. This is a science-based general education course.
