Catalog description

This course involves the biochemical analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids with manual procedures and state of the art instrumentation. The clinical significance of such analytes as electrolytes, enzymes, lipids, and carbohydrates are analyzed and considered. Drug identification, endocrinology studies, and the serological detection, application and clinical significance of viral hepatitis are included. Quality assurance, including quality control, is integrated to ensure accuracy and validity of testing methods and patient results. This course incorporates the application of laboratory mathematical concepts related to clinical chemistry. Pre- analytical, analytical, and post analytical components are utilized to enhance problem solving and critical thinking skills.
