Catalog description

This course introduces histology laboratory operations and routine histologic techniques. The applied laboratory techniques of gross dissection, fixation, decalcification, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, frozen sectioning, and basic H & E staining are developed and demonstrated by the student throughout the course. Histology laboratory organization, terminology, specimen accession, record keeping, instrumentation, laboratory safety, and quality assurance as well as the topics of OSHA regulations, CAP requirements, and Protected Patient Information are discussed to correlate good laboratory practices to quality patient care.
