Emerging Technologies for Global Cultures: AI, Agents, Workflows, and Vibe Dvlp
Carnegie Mellon University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course introduces students with no prior technical experience to digital literacies through AI, autonomous agents, automated workflows, and vibe development. Students learn to build with AI as their coding partner, progressing from basic AI literacy to creating autonomous agents and automated workflows. Topics include advanced prompting and prompt engineering, building AI agents that can perform tasks independently, designing and automating multi-step workflows without traditional coding, debugging and iterating on AI-generated code through vibe coding, and creating custom chatbots and information retrieval systems. Students apply these skills by creating projects that engage meaningfully with global cultures, such as multilingual educational tools, interactive cultural archives, community knowledge platforms, and digital preservation projects. The emphasis is on using emerging technology to build tools that preserve cultural traditions, facilitate cross-cultural communication, and celebrate diverse perspectives.
