Introduction to Islam

Catalog description
This course is an interdisciplinary introduction to Islam from the advent of the religion in the seventh century to the present day. We will explore the various interpretations and the diverse expressions of Islamic belief and practice around the world in history and today by engaging with both primary sources, such as the Quran, and secondary materials from various perspectives and disciplines, including history, religious studies, political science, law, and sociology, to inform a fuller understanding of this complex and rich religious tradition.
