Emerging Technologies in Writing

Catalog description

Emerging Technologies in Writing examines how new and evolving technologies such as generative AI, personalized content including SEO, augmented and virtual reality, data-driven composing, microcontent writing, and writing for conversational agents, are reshaping rhetorical practice. Students will explore how these technologies influence authorship, collaboration, agency, genre, audience engagement, and the role of human-machine collaboration in writing. Combining critical theory, hands-on experimentation, and design-oriented projects, the course will equip students with the technical, analytical, ethical, and creative competencies needed to write with, through, and about emerging technologies. Throughout the semester, students will engage in rhetorical analysis, multimodal composition, tool critique, and informed decision-making to understand how writing is evolving and how communicators can shape responsible technological futures.
