Organizations have greatly expanded their use of teams to accomplish a wide variety of objectives. Teams develop new products, provide professional services, and start new businesses. Temporary teams are frequently assembled to make difficult decisions, solve cross-functional problems, and generate new ideas. Advances in communication technology allow people dispersed across the globe to collaborate virtually, creating many new opportunities and challenges for leaders of such teams. This course will provide you the knowledge and skills to communicate in teams and to lead them effectively. It will help you better communicate in and lead teams and organizations. You will learn both effective leadership practices as well as how to avoid common leadership mistakes. Our readings reflect both the scientific and practice literatures and class exercises, cases, and projects provide the opportunity to apply what you learn. This course may use third-party course material that is not available for individual purchase from the publisher. If so, the third-party course material will be secured and provided by the Tepper School to students enrolled in the course, and students enrolled in the course will be required to pay to the University the associated additional course materials fee for the third-party course material provided.
