Ethics of Emerging Technologies

Catalog description

New technologies transform the ways that companies deliver value to consumers, but they also raise important ethical challenges. We will examine these challenges with the goal of developing strong normative arguments for corporate policies. Topics covered include: online data collection, media, and marketing; metaverse and virtual reality platforms; autonomous objects; genetic screening and engineering; neural screening and engineering; narrow and general artificial intelligence. This course may use third-party course material that is not available for individual purchase from the publisher. If so, the third-party course material will be secured and provided by the Tepper School to students enrolled in the course, and students enrolled in the course will be required to pay to the University the associated additional course materials fee for the third-party course material provided. The amount of the course materials fee is dependent on the University's cost of the particular materials provided, and typically ranges from $13 to $75. Prerequisites: 76-101 or 76-102 or 70-332 or ( 76-106 and 76-107 ) or ( 76-108 and 76-106 ) or ( 76-108 and 76-107 )
