Advanced DP3: Open Print

Catalog description

This advanced Print Media course focuses on student-driven development of a studio practice focused on contemporary print, multiples and distributed art. In this class, individuals will continue to build on technical skills and concepts, and the interdisciplinary applications of both, through self-directed, individual approaches. This course is for advanced students of art, ready to focus on larger-scaled, conceptually and formally ambitious projects that are formed from long-term investigations. This course will begin with a short technical unit on Letterpress printing, exploring photopolymer plates, hand carved linoleum and also movable type. Afterwards, the course is broken into 3 equal units with a similar structure, all self-defined projects. One-on-one meetings to propose technical and conceptual goals of the project, studio time with technical support, and class wide interdisciplinary critique. You are expected to have new work at each of the critiques (the new work can build off a series or conceptual focal point). Prerequisites: 60-475 or 60-468 or 60-474 or 60-251 or 60-476
