Catalog description

Foundations: Paint/Print takes an expansive and experimental approach to two dimensional image making. We will combine drawing and water-based painting with mixed media approaches, emphasizing the development of your voice across multiple media. Projects will incorporate color, paint, printed multiples, and digital imaging to expand on the techniques, concepts and materials used in contemporary art. We will experiment with print techniques such as screen printing, risograph, image transfers, monotypes and digital output. With an emphasis on material exploration, you will investigate how scale, medium, and color support or distract from the intention of your artwork. We will investigate how to do thoughtful visual research in our image and media saturated world, and what it means to appropriate, collage, and/or publish in multiple media. Working in multiples and in series, you will practice working iteratively, producing deeper visual exploration of your artistic concept and intention.
