Catalog description
The Opera Studies Seminar offers immersive and intensive historical and analytical study of specific topics in opera studies, including the works of particular composers, eras, or languages. Other topics/subjects may be offered depending upon the instructor. At its most basic, the course structure involves the intense study of performance texts and immersion in relevant primary and secondary material. As an upper-level seminar, this course also has heavy reading and writing expectations. Topic for Fall 2026: The Operas of Benjamin Britten
