Catalog description

Pop divas have been revered in U.S. culture for their musical contributions, fashion, and entrepreneurship. This course will survey pop divas in the U.S. from Aretha Franklin to our current reigning divas like Taylor Swift and Chappel Roan, especially considering foundational divas Madonna and Cher to modern but seasoned divas like Beyonce and Lady Gaga. This course will contain individual and group work, presentations, a short paper, and projects for creative knowledge demonstration. Course work will include academic readings, public facing and pop culture readings, listening examples, podcast episodes, documentary/video screenings, and a trip to a local art museum.
