Catalog description

Course Description Convocation is a required, weekly gathering designed as a participatory forum for engagement, collaboration, and shared learning across the School of Music. It brings students, faculty, and staff together to connect across studios and divisions, encounter a broad range of musical practices, and engage with the artistic work of their peers, faculty, and guest artists. Students play an active role in shaping Convocation by contributing ideas for programming, representing their divisions through student-led panels that engage guest speakers, and assuming hosting responsibilities such as introducing and thanking presenters. They also perform and speak about their own creative work, strengthening their ability to communicate artistic ideas in public contexts. The course includes faculty performances, guest ensembles of diverse global traditions, and presentations that support students' professional development and well-being. Convocation is required each semester for all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music program.
