Catalog description

This course covers fundamentals and applications of mass spectrometry applied to solve environmental problems. Applications include detection, identification, and quantification of anthropogenic contaminants in environmental and biological samples including air, water, soil, sediment, and tissue, and characterization of complex natural mixtures such as dissolved organic matter (DOM). We will cover sample preparation concepts, separation techniques, and instrumentation spanning from traditional detectors to new developments, with an emphasis on understanding capabilities and limitations of a range of techniques. Case studies will offer opportunities to analyze and interpret real data to solve environmental problems.
