Applied Research Methods

Catalog description

This course provides a foundation in basic research methods while maintaining a strong applied focus on real-world problems. This course is for advanced undergraduate students (juniors and seniors) interested in participating in research projects in the future (e.g., independent studies) and graduate students who will carry out behavioral research in the context of technology (e.g., social effects of technology, evaluation of technology, robots and agents, use of sensors to predict user behavior). The course will be run as a combination of discussion seminars and labs involving hands-on practice of skills such as experimentation, survey design, observation, interviews, and data analyses. Students will complete a research project in the course.
