Ethics in the Practice of Computational Biology

Catalog description

Advances in biotechnology and machine learning have rapidly expanded the role that computation plays in basic biology and in medicine. The new ways in which computational biology is applied have created new ethical considerations across the field. This goal of this course is to create awareness of new ethical considerations in computational biology and to provide a forum for the discussion of those issues. The course will consist of series of structured discussions around emerging topics in the field. Specific topics include commercialization of personal genetic data, ethics issues in conservation genomics, and the rise of consortium science.
