Catalog description
A study of issues related to the identification, assessment, and instruction of children with special needs, including the academically gifted. This course includes an examination of current definitions of exceptionality, legal issues, teaching strategies, coordination with families and community agencies, and the professional responsibility of the teacher. A required field experience (20 hours) is included to give the candidates the opportunity to observe the impact of current trends in the school setting.
