Catalog description

This comprehensive course introduces laboratory skills needed to accurately and preciselymeasure the mass of solid and liquid samples and the volume of liquid samples. Theconcepts of concentration, dilution and stoichiometry are reviewed including their use inanalysis. The acid base theory and the use of buffers will be discussed. Students will engagewith the theory and operation of scientific spectroscopic instrumentation typically found inpharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnical research and analytical facilities. The followingspectroscopic techniques will be covered; ultraviolet/visible, atomic absorption/emission,infrared, and fluorescence spectrophotometry and Raman. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 111 and CHEM 113 When Offered: Every Fall
