Catalog description
This course situates students amid current policies, research, and recommendations related to the role of schools in physical activity promotion by NC. Law and State Board Policy. Along with physical education teachers, school administrators, parents, and numerous other stakeholders, elementary and early childhood classroom teachers must play a major role in helping children to develop skills, dispositions, and patterns of healthy behavior necessary to lead healthful lives. The primary focus of the course is on the strategies that classroom teachers can use to increase children’s daily physical activity and supplement physical education programming. Students are given opportunities to apply evidence-based and nationally recommended practices for helping children to meet physical activity guidelines and pursue physically active lifestyles. Prerequisite(s): PE 185 OR EXER 134 When Offered: Fall Only, All Years
