-3) Students will perform independent research projects throughout the semester under the direction and supervision of faculty. The course involves research activities including primary and secondary research and reading. Projects are determined after discussion with the corresponding faculty members or students may propose their own projects for approval or engage in faculty research. Credits will be registered and awarded based on the scope of the project and the research hours required weekly: 3 hours for 1 credit; 6 hrs for 2 credits; and 9 hrs for 3 credits. These may involve both guided and independent research, as well as writing, presenting, or other products of research, such as digital humanities approaches. At the end of the semester, students must submit results in the form of project, presentation, paper, article, portfolio, or creative work. Students may be encouraged to submit their Guided Research to conferences or for publication, as appropriate. May be repeated for up to 3 hrs. of elective credit toward the major. Prerequisite(s): ENGL 300 ; Permission of Instructor When Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer
