Catalog description
A study of organic and biochemistry that builds upon the knowledge from Organic Chemistry I & II. Foundational coverage includes enol/enolates amines, carbohydrates, amino acids, peptides and proteins, nucleic acids and lipids. Biochemistry topics are approached from the chemistry perspective and will include structure and function, biological reactions, and biological equilibria and thermodynamics. Emphasis is placed on mechanistic understanding, use of the current literature, and some hands-on techniques. This course does NOT meet BIOL 430 course requirement for biochemistry majors. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 215 and CHEM 228 . When Offered: (Fall) Lecture/Lab The class will combine lecture and laboratory components.
