Field experience in Journalism under close supervision of employer and professor. Internship/field experience 3 hours. 981-3* SPECIAL TOPICS 1-3 credit hours Directed individual or group study of selected topic(s) in journalism. The course may be repeated for additional credit with departmental permission. May be repeated for a total of 6 hours. Independent study/directed readings 1- 3 hours. Prerequisite: Junior standing. JOURNALISM AND MEDIA PRODUCTION (JRMP) Communication, English, and Foreign Languages JRMP 1113* INTRODUCTION TO MASS MEDIA 3 credit hours The purpose of this introductory class is to look at the various components of the mass communication industry with special emphasis in convergent mass media: the press, broadcast journalism, digital and social media and the internet. Mass media plays a significant role in our daily lives: this course will survey these interwoven components, including the technical aspects, history, legal and social issues and future ramifications.
