Catalog description

This course offers an intersectional feminist examination of how gender-based violence is represented, misrepresented, and weaponized across media platforms. Students analyze forms of digital abuse, including revenge porn, deepfakes, and gender-based online shaming, while examining victim-blaming narratives in media coverage. Using feminist theories, students explore how media representations shape gender and sexual norms and impact survivor safety, justice, and policy. Students develop critical skills to evaluate media content, recognize harmful narratives, and create counter-narratives.
