Catalog description

A broad survey of classical song literature for solo voice and piano from the Baroque era to the present day. Topics will include the joining of music and poetry in the art song; identifying stylistic elements of classical song and poetry; cultural influences on its development; compositional techniques used by selected European, South American, and North American composers; and the use of art song in teaching. Designed for music majors; others admitted with instructor permission.
