Thermodynamics and kinetics of common phase transformations and resulting microstructures and mechanical properties. Slip mechanisms in single crystals, and metallic alloy strengthening mechanisms including grain size, solute, precipitation, cold-work, and martensite. Specific heat treatment and mechanical processing procedures for steel and aluminum alloys as well as application of these processes to other alloy systems.
