Catalog description

This course examines dress as a cultural and social practice, exploring its role in shaping individual behavior, identity, and social interaction. Students analyze theoretical concepts of the fashion complex, apply social science methodologies, and investigate relationships among appearance, social norms, and categories such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, and class. As a Writing Intensive course, students conduct primary and secondary research, synthesize complex issues, and produce clear, logical prose to demonstrate critical thinking about dress in society.
