Romances continually promise emotional (and sexual) fulfillment, but what do readers of romance novels get from this reading experience? Discussions of this popular genre will address the ways in which the pursuit of love and companionship and the indulgence in lust and passion manifest themselves in various cultural moments; critical materials will help theorize the appeals, dangers, and uses of romance fiction.
