Catalog description
This course prepares educators with knowledge and skills in evidence-based and promising practices to support students with extensive support needs, including English learners, to receive equitable, meaningful education. Emphasizing collaborative and transdisciplinary approaches, students learn to conduct individualized, person- and family-centered planning, apply ecological assessments and data-based decision making, and develop linguistically appropriate, functionally and academically relevant IEPs. The course also fosters skills in cross-cultural collaboration with families, communities, and professional teams, embedding functional and academic skill instruction in inclusive settings, and fostering natural peer supports and authentic social relationships.
