Catalog description

This course provides supervised practice in acquiring, developing, and practicing interviewing skills and counseling micro-skills under supervision and observation. The material in this course is aimed at helping students develop counseling skills necessary for effectively counseling and communicating with clients and integrating both micro-skills and theory into practice while progressing through the phases of counseling, from relationship building to termination. Emphasis is placed on becoming reflective practitioners by analyzing counselor and client qualities, building self-awareness and self-efficacy, receiving and implementing feedback, and evaluating their own and peers' developing clinical judgment.
