Catalog description

This course explores the boundaries between public work and private life, the myth of "work-life balance," and the communication patterns and processes that support and undermine wellbeing. With a focus on the many discourses and ideologies that shape how people navigate work/life conflicts, this course invites students to critically reflect on research about burnout, self-care, family, gender roles, social class, capitalism, entrepreneurialism, and organizational and public policy. Through careful reading and reflection activities, students will develop skills and communication strategies to cultivate work/life wellbeing.
