Catalog description
This course invites students to learn the theories, practices, and methods used to understand communication in and by organizations, and to develop communication skills that are valued in organizations. Throughout the class, students are introduced to organizational processes like decision making, culture and subcultures, power, leadership, relationships, conflict negotiation, and organizational change management, as well as how identity, gender, diversity, technology, and emotionality influence organizing. Students consider all of the various organizations in which they interact, including current and previous employers, schools, churches, sports teams, government agencies, etc.
