Explores beliefs, values, and practices of childhood in different historical, social, and economic contexts, and how class, culture, education, and science have influenced social meanings assigned to childhood and children's development. A critical and interdisciplinary approach provides a framework from which to analyze scholarly inquiry about how children develop in families, schools, and broader society.
